You’ve probably heard of three popular injectables: Perlane, Sculptra, and Radiesse. Each is a little different than the other two, and each works well for specific volume enhancing needs.
Perlane
Perlane is a hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body whose job it is to plump and firm the skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts and binds with water molecules to do this. Perlane has a thicker consistency, so it needs to be injected into areas with ample fat. It is very effective at enlarging the lips.
Sculptra
Sculptra is made of tiny beads of polylactic acid in a gel. These beads have two functions. First, they support and add volume. This is useful in the hollows of the cheeks and at the temples. The second function is to stimulate the body to form new collagen. As the beads naturally break down, they stimulate the body to produce collagen. Typically two to four initial treatments are done, spaced about three weeks apart. Sculptra results can last up to two years.
Radiesse
Radiesse is made up of tiny calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The microspheres provide structure and also stimulate the production of collagen as the body eventually absorbs them. Radiesse is effective for enhancing the cheekbones and the chin, and can elevate wrinkles and depressions near facial folds. Results last one year for most patients.
The key to all of these volume-enhancing fillers is to have them injected by an experienced provider such as Dr. Lavey. His extensive knowledge of facial anatomy ensures that you will get the most out of these products.
