Sometimes less volume is a good thing, like when your son is playing his new favorite metal CD. But when it comes to your cheeks, a loss of volume can leave them looking hollow and ghostly.
Collagen is the thing. It’s the protein whose job it is to provide support to the skin. Without it, the skin can sink and wrinkles can form. Unfortunately, as we age, our body’s production of collagen decreases.
Dr. Lavey uses Sculptra Aesthetic to replace lost collagen, to build volume, and to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is different from other fillers in that its results are not immediate. This filler is made of tiny beads of a biodegradable sugar, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). When injected deep into the dermis, these beads stimulate the production of new collagen. Sculptra is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time as collagen is replaced. This makes for a natural-looking appearance that improves over time, not an instant change as with other fillers. Da. Lavey usually recommends three injection sessions spaced three weeks apart for the best results. These results can then last for over two years!
How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is injected into the deep dermal layer of the skin. Microparticles of PLLA work within the deep dermis to rebuild lost collagen and provide structural skin support. As the PLLA is absorbed a collagen framework is created. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness to shallow to deep wrinkles and folds.
Where is Sculptra effective?
Sculptra is effective for:
- Adding volume to the cheeks
- Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called smile lines
- The lines framing your mouth (marionette lines)
- Chin wrinkles
