The decision to have breast augmentation isn’t one to take lightly. It is, after all, a surgical procedure with all that goes with it. Plus, augmentation is a life-changing event. Your profile will forever change, and that’s the most exciting part for most women. Whether you’ve always felt your breasts were not proportional to the rest of your body, whether you’ve always been envious of women with curvier figures, or whether you want to address breasts that have lost volume through having children — there are myriad reasons a woman chooses augmentation.
But once you’ve made the big decision, you still have some other choices to make before your surgery date with Dr. Lavey.
Obviously, your first step will be your consultation with Dr. Lavey. Together, you’ll discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure. Expectations need to be realistic. And then you’ll discuss the four other decisions you’ll need to make. Dr. Lavey and our entire team will help you through each of these, so you feel totally comfortable and ready to go ahead with your surgery.
- Implant type. Saline or silicone — both types have pluses and minuses. Most people feel that silicone implants have a more natural feel than saline. However, if a saline implant ruptures, your body simply absorbs the salt water. If a silicone implant ruptures, you’ll need to have any silicone that has leaked removed.
- Implant position. Do you want the implants placed atop the breast muscle or underneath the breast muscle? Many people believe that implants placed under the muscle have a more natural look, but, as with all of these decisions, it’s all about personal preference.
- Incision location. Where you choose to have the implants inserted will affect your scarring. Implants can be placed through incisions either at the bottom of the breast, near or in the areola, or in the armpit. Obviously, incisions in the armpit don’t leave any scarring on the breasts.
Implant style. You will choose the size, shape, and the projection of your implants. You will also decide if you want your implants to have texture, which can help to keep them from shifting.
This list of decisions may seem daunting, but our team will help you with every one of them. Call us at 925-820-3633 and schedule a consultation.
