3 Strategies to Keep the Weight Off After Liposuction

So you’re now ready to undergo liposuction here at our Danville body contouring surgery practice — you’ve already filled your prescription, have prepared your “recovery nest” at home, and has taken some time off from work or school.

Every so often, we remind our clients here at our practice that maintaining the results you get following liposuction involves certain strategies and habits that you may need to incorporate to your lifestyle post-liposuction. Read on for these strategies below.

1. Exercise.

While you may have probably heard about the need to move to keep the weight off, the researchers of this study concluded that the dreaded return of fat following liposuction can be counteracted with physical activity. By and large, it pays to at least incorporate any form of exercise for at least 30 to 40 minutes a day thrice a week. The exercises performed by the subjects in the study who did not regain weight after liposuction consisted of a combination of jogging or walking on a treadmill and light weight training.

2. Eat real food and do not fully depend on highly processed foods for your nutrition.

It doesn’t really matter which diet you’ll adhere to, may it be low-carb, vegan, or paleo as long as you make an effort to eat food that is the least processed and refined. By and large, choose vegetables, lean meats, fruits, and whole grains.

In addition, you do not have to avoid fat altogether. Fat itself plays an important role in your metabolism. Excellent sources of good fat include avocados, nuts, and flax seeds.

3. Get enough sleep.

This Forbes article published the results of a study that found out an association between individuals who have a consistent sleep routine and a lower percentage of body fat. The  study’s key findings associated low body fat with sleeping and waking up at the same time as well as getting 6.5-7.5 hours of sleep every day.
